Department of Mineral Fuels receives global GIS technology award

BANGKOK, July 25 (TNA) -- The Department of Mineral Fuels has obtained the SAG Award 2017 in the oil and gas category, being the first governmental organization to win the award for efficiently applying GIS technology in its operations. Veerasak Pungrassamee, director-general of the department, said he received the award in the ESRI User Conference 2017 in Santiago, the United States, on July 13. He said that the award was a great honor and a pride of the department and Thailand because among 100,000 entries of geographic information system (GIS) application worldwide, only 77 won awards. “The Department of Mineral Fuels is among the awardees and is the first governmental organization in the field of energy to receive the award. It has applied GIS in its management of information about petroleum exploration and production to modernize its area-based information system up to international standard,” Mr Veerasak said. (TNA)
