ECO Members Should Boost Co-op To Fight Corruption : Larijani

Tehran, May 1, IRNA – Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Larijani said here on Monday that fighting economic corruption will be materialized only through cooperation with the ECO member states. Larijani made the remark while addressing the First Meeting of Attorneys/Prosecutors General of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Member States. Underlining the importance of fighting economic corruption, he reiterated that sustainable development will not be achieved while societies suffer lack of security. Urging the ECO member states to identify organized crimes, he stressed that in order to fight economic corruption, countries should first become familiar with the organized crimes. Larijani further said, based on statistics, the organized crimes have been reduced in the Islamic Republic of Iran. Larijani said countering drug trafficking is among main concerns of the ECO member states, adding that those countries are victims of drug smuggling. Referring to the Islamic Republic of Iran as the major victim of transit of narcotic drugs, he regretted that poppy cultivation in Afghanistan has been increased following the presence of US forces in that country./end
