Garuda To Start Using Bio-Fuel In 2015

Nusa Dua, July 2 (Antara) - PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) said it will start using bio-fuel for all of its aircraft in 2015. Garuda will use 10 million liters of the alternative fuel in 2015 in mixture with other aviation fuel, Novianto Herupratomno, the operation director of the country`s flag carrier, said. However, the target could be reached depending on the availability of bio-duel, Novianto said. It is only a small part of fuel needed by the entire aircraft of the airline . Currently the airline has 96 units of aircraft and the number is expected to increase to 144 units in 2015, Novianto said here on Tuesday. He said an aircraft will need around 10 million liters of fuel a year. He said Garuda hopes that bio-fuel could be produced in large scale in the country with competitive prices. Meanwhile, the transport ministry said in 2016, all airlines in the country are expected to use bio-fuel in mixture with oil fuel in 2016. "The fuel will not be pure bio-fuel. It will be a mixture," Deputy Transport Minister Bambang Susantono said. The alternative fuel for land transport is bio-diesel , a mixture between bio-fuel and diesel oil, and the alternative fuel for aviation is bio-ethanol.
