Jewelry exporters advised to use hallmarks

NONTHABURI, Sept 3 (TNA) -- Thai gem and jewelry traders have been advised to use hallmarks to certify their products before launching their international marketing campaigns. Duangkamol Jiambutr, director of the Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand (GIT), said the institute was inviting export-oriented gem and jewelry traders to seek its hallmark services to certify the standard of their products before export promotion campaigns to ensure international recognition. According to her, traders can send their products to the GIT and the certification process will take a few minutes and charge small fees. The hallmarks are supporting a plan to develop Thailand to be a center of gems and jewelry. Although Thailand is one of the world’s big exporters of jewelry, the country lacked product hallmarks, a certification organisation and a law on gem and jewelry standard. The GIT was aware of the problem and was promoting the hallmarks to support Thai products in global markets, Ms Duangkamol said. (TNA)
