Kahramaa Launches New Water Stations

Doha, October 06 (QNA) - Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) has inaugurated new key projects totaling more than QR2 billion to meet the increasing demand on water in the country. In a statement released today, Kahramaa said it initially inaugurated five water stations; mainly, Duhail Station, Umm Qarn Station, Msaimeer Station, South of Doha Station, and Muaither Station. More water reservoirs have been added to some of the existing stations, Kahramaa said. Kahramaa's Director of Technical Affairs Eng Ahmed Nasser Al Nasr said the launch comes within the company's efforts to cope with the substantial increase in customers and the rising demand for water in light of the significant boom witnessed in Qatar. Based on the geographical distribution, he said, Kahramaa selected areas where the new stations were set up in order to help raise the efficiency of its network and solve the problem of low water pressure in some areas as well as supply a larger number of stations to ensure that there is more than one feeder station for any residential area. Kahramaa has already implemented several projects in order to improve its services and is keen to improve the quality of water supply through expanding and replacing water distribution networks, he stressed. Al Nasr revealed that Kahramaa would carry out more projects including Water Security Mega Reservoirs project. The project is in response to the huge increase in water demand in the country as it undergoes an infrastructure and development transformation, he said, adding that the project will seek to provide seven days of strategic water storage to handle water demand in 2026.
