Key Questions Confront The Country As It Reopens - "Restart Malaysia"
KUALA LUMPUR, May 21 (Bernama) -- Malaysia is confronted with several key questions as it reopens its economy and adapts to the new normal amidst the flattening of the COVID-19 transmission curve, according to ‘Restart Malaysia’, a new publication by PwC Malaysia.
The key questions include how can the country revive its economy? should more public life be allowed or should it wait? and how can all this be achieved without triggering a second wave of the pandemic?
‘Restart Malaysia’ shares five priorities, such as economy and finance, international affairs and security, infrastructure, society and living together and education, which aims to help set the direction for a collaborative effort between the public, authorities, businesses and the people as part of the COVID-19 recovery process.
PwC executive chairman Mohammad Faiz Azmi said sentiments were mixed among the business community as Malaysia restarts, although several measures implemented by the government to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 are beginning to bear fruit.
"The resilience of businesses and the wider society will continue to be tested as more sectors of the economy and daily life resume," he said in a statement today.
The survival of whole businesses and industries according to him, would depend on consumer sentiments, which was only possible by creating a safe environment that the people can trust, to do their part in stimulating the economy.
"Hence, more public-private partnership efforts are needed across the board to address the unprecedented challenges posed by COVID-19 to the way Malaysian live, work and do business.
"We need to press on in our collective efforts to reinvigorate Malaysia, anchored on trust, the courage of conviction and inclusiveness," he said.
