Langka Overshoots Target In Rice Harvest Area

Langkat, North Sumatra, Jan 2 (Antara) - Rice harvest areas in the district of Langkat, North Sumatra, exceeded the target set by the regional agriculture office for 2013. "Harvest areas in irrigated rice fields totaled 83,139 hectares or five percent wider than the target of 79,513 hectares, head of the Langkat district agriculture office Basrah Daulay said in Stabat, on Thursday. Harvest areas for rain fed rice fields totaled 552 hectares also exceeding the target of 400 hectares, Basrah said. Basrah, however, could not give figure for rice production as calculation of production needs to involve the Central Bureau of Statistics to be officially accepted. With harvest area exceeding the target , the district rice production was believed to be also higher than the target, he said Separately the secretary of the Langkat district agriculture office Mahruzar Nasution said Langkat also overshot targets for the production of other farm products like tomato, cucumber, watermelon, mustard greens.
