Larijani Calls For Expansion Of Iran-Japan Economic Co-op

Tehran, April 9, IRNA - Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani on Sunday called for expansion of economic cooperation between Iran and Japan. Larijani made the remarks in a meeting with former Japanese premier Yukio Hatoyama who is now visiting the Islamic Republic of Iran. Promotion of economic cooperation between Iran and Japan will bring credibility and economic boom to the entire region, he said. Expansion of cooperation between the two sides will also make it possible to resolve problems facing the region, he said, adding that the Islamic Republic of Iran has always backed promotion of democracy in region. Iran is very optimistic about the result of upcoming talks with the G5+1, Larijani said adding that the other side should take positive steps and avoid merely looking for political gestures. The former Japanese premier, for his part, highlighted deep rooted ties between the two sides and said the two countries have enjoyed amicable and positive relations and the Japanese government and nation call for broadening of economic, political and cultural cooperation with Iran. Upcoming talks between Iran and G5+1 would provide a suitable opportunity for building confidence between the two sides, he said, adding that flexibility and mutual confidence can help resolve the issue. He said Japan believes that the result of such talks would be effective in restoring tranquility to the region, he said./end
