LIMA 2011 Witnesses Enhanced Global Platform For M'sian Companies

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 3 (Bernama) -- The Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace (LIMA 2011) has witnessed local aerospace and maritime players in discussions with global aerospace, defence and maritime companies to provide products and services to sustain the latter's international operations. Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) said negotiations were currently ongoing for products and services such as engineering-related services, systems integration, ICT-related to the defence and security industries, simulation and training services, precision machinery, tools and calibration equipment and maintenance, repair and overhaul services (MRO). It also said company-to-company negotiations were made possible with the introduction of official business-to-business meetings, held for the first time ever in the LIMA series of exhibitions. "Since these two sectors have been identified as among the key strategic industries in the government's Economic Transformation Programme (ETP), Matrade will continue to provide assistance to Malaysian aerospace and maritime companies by networking them with global companies," the trade agency said in a statement Tuesday. For 2012, Matrade said it was planning to organise specialised programmes to promote Malaysia's aerospace and maritime sectors through key industry events like the ILA Berlin Airshow 2012 (Sept 11 to 16), Specialised Marketing Missions on Aerospace/Maritime and MRO Services to Asean countries (the Philippines, Indonesia and Singapore) in March and to China (Guangzhou and Shanghai) in November. -- BERNAMA
