Mahindra SatyamTo Concentrate On Four Key Areas In Malaysia
By Santhia Thevi Panjanadan
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 18 (Bernama) -- Mahindra Satyam, a leading global
consulting and information technology company offering business consulting
services, hopes to further strengthen its position in Malaysia by focusing on
four key sectors.
Its Head of Sales, Asean, Ram Ramachandran, identified banking and
insurance, manufacturing, government and goverment-linked and airline sectors,
as core areas which offered great potentials for growth.
He said the company, already faring well in these sectors globally, wanted
to emulate them in Malaysia.
"The uptake has been encouraging and it is still growing. We feel that the
huge amount of work we have done worldwide can be replicated in a market like
Malaysia," he told Bernama here Friday.
Ram said the company's clients -- major global corporates -- were the main
driving forces behind its growing business.
The company's name "Satyam" means "being true to our promises" in Hindi and
Tamil.
Mahindra Satyam's operations in Malaysia are part of its international
expansion plans and it has been moving software development and delivery
operations to its Global Solutions Centre (GSC) in Cyberjaya.
He said the government and government-linked sectors had the most market
potentials and the company had started discussions with related parties.
"We can't go directly, but there are creditable partners whom we have
started to engage with," he said.
Ram said Mahindra Satyam saw huge requirements coming in from the Malaysian
market following the technology globalisation that was taking place rapidly,
which Malaysia was also actively involved.
Among the areas of services that have potentials in the local market are
legacy modernisation around business intelligence, enterprise applications,
analytic solutions and social media analytics.
"Mahindra Satyam has advantages because we have the experience working on
them on the larger scale for enterprises globally and we would like to replicate
them here.
"We have kicked off our focus but now with more structured approach to the
market following the identification of the key four sectors and more aligned
partners, Mahindra Satyam is poised to grow in Malaysia going forward," he said.
He said its GSC's manpower had grown by over 30 per cent to 450 employees
since the centre was established last year, to cater to the global and local
customers.
Malaysians accounted for between 80 per cent and 90 per cent, he said.
"Huge investments are being made in terms of recruitment and training. Our
teams are scaling up. Now there are even tie-ups with universities for training.
"The over 30 per cent growth from last year signifies the centre's positive
performance," he said.
Currently, GSC has about 20 customers from a variety of sectors and the
local customer base was continuously growing encouragingly, he said.
He said GSC's new customer, MasterCard Global, has enabled the company's
Malaysian resources to be the key delivery location for Mastercard.
