Malaysian Builders Eye A Slice Of Projects Worth US$160 Bln In Qatar
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 28 (Bernama) -- Malaysian building and construction sector
companies are eyeing a slice of the US$160 billion worth of projects in Qatar
through their participation in the upcoming Malaysia Services Exhibition (MSE
2012) in the Arab state.
The multi-billion dollar construction and infrastructure projects will be
required as Qatar is hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Organised for the fifth consecutive year by the Malaysia External Trade
Development Corporation (MATRADE), the MSE 2012 will take place at the Doha
Exhibition Centre (DEC) from April 30-May 3.
It will be held concurrently with the 9th International Construction
Technology and Building Materials Exhibition, said MATRADE in a statement
Tuesday.
"Our companies are ready to bid for projects in Qatar which is in the midst
of an infrastructure boom," its deputy chief executive officer, Datuk Mohamad
Kamarudin Hassan said.
He added that the MSE 2012 will as such showcase the strength of Malaysian
companies in the construction, building materials and ICT sectors, as well as
service providers in environmental management.
"While many foreign companies will also be bidding for Qatar’s World Cup
projects, MATRADE has confidence in Malaysian entities, based on their proven
track record of having constructed and delivered highly complex infrastructure
projects within the region," Mohamad Kamarudin said.
