Malaysia's Net Capital Stock Rises To RM3.2 Trillion In 2019: DOSM
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 6 (Bernama) -- The net capital stock, which represents the wealth of Malaysia’s economy, grew at a slower pace of 3.6 per cent with a value of RM3.2 trillion last year, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM).
In a Capital Stock Statistics 2019 report, it said Malaysia's accumulated investment in terms of fixed assets, presented by gross capital stock, amounted to RM5 trillion, recording a growth of 3.9 per cent in 2019.
DOSM chief statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said the value of fixed assets in the services sector was the largest compared with other economic activities, valued at RM2.1 trillion, commanding a share of 67.3 per cent.
“The mining and quarrying sector accounted for 17.6 per cent, while the manufacturing sector was 11.9 per cent,” he said in a statement Friday.
Mohd Uzir explained that in terms of the type of assets, structure was the main contributor with a share of 79.2 per cent supported by expenditure on other structure and non-residential.
“Machinery and equipment (sector) was the second largest contributor with 12.3 per cent, and other assets registered 8.5 per cent,” he said.
Mohd Uzir also said that due to the COVID-19 outbreak that hit the country and the world this year, there is a possibility that the Capital Stock Statistics 2020 data will be affected.
“This is due to the reduction in expenses on the purchase of fixed assets following the implementation of Movement Control Order which affected the activities and operations of companies,” he added.
