Number Of Pre-Paid System Subscribers Of PLN Close To Target

Jakarta, May 14 (Antara) - State-owned Electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) said it is set to reach the target 10 million in the number its electricity subscribers using prepaid system in the next two months. "Currently the number of pre-paid system subscribers has reached at least 9,741,000, almost reaching the target of 10 million," Benny Marbun, head of the commercial division of the state electricity company, said here on Tuesday. Benny said he was optimistic the target would be reached in two months with the big potential in Java. Subscribers from eastern Indonesia dominate the number of users of prepaid system, he said, adding around 60 percent of users of prepaid system are subscribers from eastern Indonesia such as East and West Nusa Tenggara. He said most of the prepaid system users are new subscribers, but not few migration from post-paid system to pre-paid system among the subscribers. "For many PLN subscribers pre-paid system is cheaper and more efficient," he said. PLN encourages migration from post-paid to pre-paid system by old subscribers, he said. By the end of last year PLN recorded around 7,832,710 subscribers using pre-paid system and by the end of April this year the number rose by around 1.9 million. New subscribers make up 80 percent of the users of the pre-paid system.
