Platinum Group attributes fashion product growth to online sales

BANGKOK, Aug 16 (TNA) -- The sales of fashion products are growing as an economic slowdown prompts people to generate extra income by selling fashion products online, according to the Platinum Group, the management of the largest wholesale and retail shopping mall. Chanchai Phansopha, president of the company, said such sideline jobs would maintain the growth of fashion product wholesale in the rest of this year. According to him, the online purchase of fashion products including clothing is very popular in provinces. Consequently a large number of new vendors are ordering clothing, cosmetics and other fashion products from wholesalers. The movement draws large-scaled logistic operators to open their branches at wholesale centres. Mr Chanchai also said Thai and foreign tourists with high purchasing power were shopping in Bangkok’s Pratunam area where his company’s Platinum Fashion Mall stands. Their number rose by 15% in the first half of this year. Most of them came from China, Indonesia, Vietnam, India and Myanmar. The number of visitors to the shopping mall was also increasing by 15% this year, up from 6-7% annual growth previously, he said. He attributed the growth partly to a new walkway linking Pratunam and Ratchaprasong areas. His company will adjust area rents in November after a recent change in February. It will also build The Market Bangkok project, a 5.8-billion-baht retail center with 195,000 square meters, on a 20-rai land plot. Mr Chanchai was confident that the company’s revenue would reach a new high at 2 billion baht this year as it earned 997 million baht and posted a net profit of 371 million baht in the first half of the year.
