Prince William visits London Gateway Port

DUBAI, 20th March, 2016 (WAM)--Prince William, The Duke of Cambridge, has visited the London Gateway Port in Thurrock to mark an agreement by operator DP World to fight against damage to wildlife. DP World announced on Wednesday that it was ’taking an industry-leading role to help protect the world’s critically endangered wildlife by signing up to a series of far-reaching commitments. Company representatives attended a meeting at Buckingham Palace this week to agree to a list of terms. The company said agreements it undertook related to ’information sharing’, ’detection’ and ’practical measures to stop the transportation of illegal wildlife products’. Lord William Hague, who has signed up as chairman of the wildlife ’taskforce’, visited DP World alongside Prince William, The Duke of Cambridge. The London Gateway Port is based in one of the most valuable wildlife habitats in Europe – the Thames Estuary. The estuary is a European marine site and ’supports certain natural habitats and species of European importance’. Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, chairman and CEO of the DP World group, said, "We were very pleased to welcome such esteemed guests to our London Gateway facility and show the ways in which we are helping to grow global trade whilst simultaneously helping to stamp out the illegal global trade in wildlife products. DP World is proud to be an original member of the United for Wildlife Taskforce and I am delighted that other leading international businesses have joined us today in signing these commitments." He added, "This is a landmark moment in the fight to save some of the world’s most endangered species. As a global ports operator we have an important role to play as a sustainable business, in partnership with customs authorities, in eradicating this morally reprehensible activity." – Emirates News Agency, WAM - http://www.wam.ae/en/news/emirates/1395293103895.html
