Riau Shelves 70 Projects On Limited Time Left

Pekanbaru, Riau, Nov 6 (Antara) - The Riau provincial administration has decided to shelve 70 infrastructure projects in the province as it is not likely to implement them as scheduled with limited time left this year. "The results would likely be below the standard. Therefore, it is better to postpone implementation," Care taker Governor of Riau Arsyadjuliandi Rachman said here on Thursday. He said the highway construction service could force itself to carry out the projects before the end of this year as scheduled but it would risk breaking the regulations. Head of the highway construction service of Riau Syafril Buchori said the 70 infrastructure projects had to be carried over become part of the programs in 2015 . Implementation of 2014 regional budget for the institution was only 5 percent of its target in 2014. Based on data at the Regional Development Planning Board (Bappeda) of Riau, so far implementation of projects to be completed in the province in 2014 has reached only 30 percent of the total budget of Rp8.84 trillion set for the year. The poor performance began since early this year notably after the arrest of the previous governor Annas Maamun by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on a graft charge. Earlier head of Bappeda M. Yafiz said it would be difficult for the Riau administration to implement all programs in the regional budget of 2014 in the remaining months of this year. However, the regional administration is set to meet 60-70 percent of the target. "The remaining 30 percent could be carried over and included in the 2015 budget," Yafiz said.
