Rupiah Falls On Trade Deficit

Jakarta, July 2 (Antara) - The Indonesia currency rupiah fell in value against the US dollar on Tuesday morning on deficit in the country trade balance in May. Rupiah traded at the level of 9,955 to the US dollar in inter-bank transaction weakening from Monday`s close of 9,940. "Rupiah failed to stay in positive area after the Central Bureau of Statistics announced a deficit in the country`s foreign trade in May," the chief researcher of PT Trust Securities, Reza Priyambada said here on Tuesday. BPS announced on Monday the country suffered a trade deficit of US$590.4 million in May. Reza said the country`s exports rose in May but not enough to give a positive sentiment to rupiah facing the US dollar.
