Sarawak Furniture Seminar Set To Attract Over 150 Participants

KUCHING (Sarawak, Malaysia), Jan 31 (Bernama) -- The Sarawak Furniture Industry Development Seminar, to be held here on Feb 14-15, 2012, is expected to attract over 150 participants. In a statement on Tuesday, the Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) said it would jointly-organise the seminar with Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corp (STIDC) and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas). "The seminar aims to promote production of niche furniture products using alternative resources," it said. Natural Resources and Environment Minister, Douglas Uggah Embas, will declare open the seminar, which would highlight the trends, challenges and opportunities in the furniture-making industry, it said. FRIM said a total of 14 speakers would present their papers which would touch on the furniture export constraints, furniture design testing requirements, raw material supply and financial incentives. A memorandum of understanding between FRIM, STIDC and Unimas would be signed during the seminar to mark their collaboration in setting up a furniture testing laboratory in East Malaysia state of Sarawak, as well as in furniture design and development, training and technical services, it said. -- BERNAMA Malaysia
