Semen Indonesia Sets Cement Production Target At 72.9 M Tons

Gresik, E Java, Aug 8 (Antara) - Publicly traded cement producer PT Semen Indonesia said here on Thursday that its production capacity would be expanded in the following years to reach 72.9 million tons in 2030. The production capacity is more than doubling its present capacity of the company, Dwi Soetjipto, the president director of the state company said. Currently the company has an annual production capacity of 31.8 million tons. PT Semen Indonesia would expand its capacity by building more factories or through acquisition of cement factories, Dwi said here on Thursday on the occasion of the 57th anniversary of the country`s largest cement producer. "In 2014, the company has carried out strategic preparations for further expansion. The process of ground breaking has been completed to mark the start of work to build Indarung VI and Rembang I factories," he said. The company has also built cement mill in Dumai, Riau, expanded the production capacity of Semen Tonasa in South Sulawesi, established an information technology subsidiary and completed the financial restructuring of TLCC (Thang Long Cement Joint Stock Company) in Vietnam, he cited. "The strategies carried out by the company in 2014 would have positive impact on its performance in the coming years," Dwi Soetjipto said. He noted that in 57 years after its establishment, PT Semen Indonesia, formerly PT Semen Gresik, has expanded rapidly, saying the company started operation with an an annual production capacity of only 250,000 tons. "What we have now is the result of what we invested in the past years, and what the company would have in the next 4-5 years is the result of what we invest now," he said. On the occasion, Dwi Soetjipto also officially opened a new building housing the head office of the company in the village of Sumberarum, in the regency of Tuban, East Java. Construction of the new 7-storey building started in July 2012 to cost around Rp90 billion. Dwi Soetjipto said Semen Indonesia has become a multinational company thanks to support of skilled human resources it has. "Its position as the market leader shows that it is run by competent management," he added. He said the company has expanded rapidly and is on the track to become a world class cement makers.
