KOTA BAHARU (Kelantan, Malaysia), Feb 23 (Bernama) -- Heard of Trigona bees anyone? Most likely not, much less taste its honey, said to be tastier than those of other bees. This is due to the lack of Malaysians' exposure to trigona bee honey, and its absence in retail outlets, as few are producing it commercially. Its honey is said to have twice the nutritional value of other types of honey. The honey is also said to boost metabolism, preserve beauty, treat internal diseases including diabetes, hepatitis, cancer and high blood pressure. Razip International Trade Company manager Razip Ibrahim, 54, said trading in the honey could be lucrative, if seriously carried out. Razip, who started rearing trigona bees three years ago, said his company would start selling trigona bee honey in the local market, soon. "Currently, we are producing 30 kilogrammes of honey a month but it is not enough. We are increasing the number of bee colonies to 100 from 30 to meet demand," he said when met at Kampung Petani Sering, here, on Thursday. Trigona bees also produce propolis which is said to treat ulcer, cleanse the kidneys and curbs cancer cells and is also antibacteria. Another product is bee bread which contains essential amino acids said to strengthen the liver, muscles, eyes and boosts creativity and imagination.
