Thai-Lao border markets active during New Year holidays

NAKHON PHANOM, THAILAND, December 31 (TNA) – Trade at Thai-Lao border markets in Nakhon Panom province is booming with the value of Thai export doubling from four to five million baht a month to 10 million at present. Numerous Lao merchants were Monday seen crossing the border into markets in Tha Uthen, Mueang, and That Phanom districts to stock up on goods for sales during the New Year season, as more than 90 percent of Lao people use consumer products bought from the Thai side. The Nakhon Panom Provincial Office has ordered relevant agencies to beef up security and safety measures to prevent smuggling of illegal products during the New Year season. (TNA)
