Thai private sector is actively penetrating into CLMV

NONTHABURI, Aug 7 (TNA) -- The Commerce Ministry leads Thai operators to the Shan State of Myanmar on Aug 7-11 to promote Thai products and investment there. Minister Apiradi Tantraporn said that the trip led by the Department of Foreign Trade was part of a policy to market Thai products in towns of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam (CLMV). The Thai delegation was set to meet the Shan State’s chief minister, ministers of economy and finance, the chair of the Taunggyi, and the governor of Kengtung. The Thai delegation included representatives of the Bank of Thailand, the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA), Kasikorn Bank, the Chiang Rai Chamber of Commerce and Amata Corporation. Ms Duangporn Rodphaya, director-general of the Foreign Trade Department, said Kasikorn Bank was interested in opening a new branch there after having a Yangon branch and the PEA intended to build a power plant in the Shan State. According to her, the Shan State invited Amata Corp to build an industrial estate there. Thai chicken farmers also joined the delegation to explore farming opportunities in Shan. The department plans to organize the Thailand Festival 2018 in Taunggyi and Kengtung to promote Thai products. It will also invite operators of both Myanmar towns to a trade fair in Mae Sai district, Chiang Rai, on Aug 25-28. (TNA)
