Thailand’s 2nd Chiang Saen port to be officially opened
BANGKOK, December 10 (TNA) - Transport Minister Chadchat Sittipan said on Monday a new sea port, worth 1.5 billion baht, will be opened in Chiang Saen, Chiang Rai Province on Wednesday, in an effort to boost trade with Laos and southern China before the ASEAN Economic Community inception in 2015.
Part of the development includes an 800-million baht road link to the port by 2014.
Exports through Chiang Saen district reach nearly 9 billion baht a year, and up to 1 billion baht from imports. Top exports to China and Laos include frozen chicken and palm oil, while Thailand imports mostly fruits, sunflower seeds, garlic, fireworks and Chinese mushrooms. (TNA)
