Thailand’s competitiveness rises to 32nd position

BANGKOK, Sept 28 (TNA) -- The World Economic Forum (WEF) ranks Thailand 32nd for its competitiveness among worldwide countries, showing its two-rank improvement. Taywin Wongwanich of the government’s committee on the development of national competitiveness said the rank of Thailand was two steps higher from the 34th position with its overall competitiveness scores increasing from 4.67 to 4.72 this year. Among Southeast Asian nations, Thailand was ranked 3rd after Singapore and Malaysia. Most neighboring countries were ranked better, showing that they were eagerly improving their competitiveness, Mr Taywin said. According to him, Thailand’s score rose this year due to its development in many areas including services by governmental organizations, infrastructures, macro economy and innovation. Suriyon Thankitjanukit, an economic competitiveness enhancement director of the National Economic and Social Development Board, said the government set up an innovation centre, facilitated business, and would shorten the duration of a business registration process from 25 days to 2.5 days next year. He also said that some category-based scores had not improved when it came to public education, some government services including those concerning intellectual property, police’s reliability and impacts of terror attacks.
