Thailand's investment jumps 50 per cent

BANGKOK, July 28 (TNA) -- Applications for investment privileges in Thailand in the first half of 2017 jumped 50 per cent as compared to the same period of 2016, Thailand’s Board of Investment (BoI) reports. BoI Secretary-general Hirunya Suchinai revealed on Thursday that the foreign investment value was on pace to reach the target of Bt600 billion this year. She said foreign investors applied for investment promotion incentives for investment projects worth Bt341.31 billion in the first six months of this year. The new investment projects created 33,000 new jobs and demands for domestic materials worth Bt288 billion per year, she said. Under the government’s Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) scheme, there have been 150 applications for projects valued around Bt87.43 billion, or 30 per cent of the total, said Hiranya. On Thursday, BoI approved the latest five investment applications projects worth Bt128 billion, including that of big bike giant Triumph Motorcycle (Thailand) and Toyota Motor (Thailand). (TNA)
