Wakatobi Agrarian Reform Task Force Summit starts June 8

S Sulawesi, May 31 (Antara) - The first Agrarian Reform Task Force (GTRA) Summit, which will be attended by state institutions/ministries, local governments, associations, and civil society organizations, will take place in Wakatobi district, Southeast Sulawesi, from June 8–10, 2022. “The appointment of Wakatobi district as the host of the summit is inseparable from President Joko Widodo's idea to establish alternative tourism destinations besides Bali Island," Governor of Southeast Sulawesi province, Ali Mazi, said here on Monday. A number of ministers are scheduled to attend the meeting along with the President, including Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning Minister Sofyan A. Djalil as the organizer of the summit at the central government level, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartanto, and Investment Minister Bahlil Lahadalia. In addition, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, Environment and Forestry Minister Siti Nurbaya Bakar, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Arifin Tasrif, as well as Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno will join the event. The 2022 Wakatobi GTRA Summit is expected to encourage synergy among stakeholders on spatial planning and asset management technical implementation, such as regarding the utilization of forest areas as well as the issuance of business permits and land rights. The meeting is also expected to improve access for indigenous peoples, local communities, as well as traditional communities in coastal areas and small islands. The attempts are part of the Job Creation Law and its derivative regulations. "GTRA aims to realize and implement an umbrella institution for supporting the Agrarian Reform Program, thus it can effectively expedite the achievement of national targets, such as asset reform (legalization and redistribution of land) as well as access reform (community empowerment and soil productivity improvement)," the governor stated. Earlier, acting regional secretary of Southeast Sulawesi, Asrun Lio, had informed that the 2022 Wakatobi GTRA Summit is themed "Ahead of the G20 Presidency Summit: An Inclusive and Environmentally Friendly Economic Recovery through Agrarian Reform, Harmonization of Spatial Planning, and Empowerment of Coastal and Small Islands Communities.” The main theme has been divided into three sub-themes, namely "Legal Capacity of Community Land Rights and Business Licensing,” “Management of Assets in Coastal Areas, Small Islands, and Outermost Small Islands,” as well as “Structuring Access for Customary, Traditional, and Local Communities in the Coastal Areas and Small Islands.”
