WIEF Chairman, Musa Hitam To Lead Delegation To 5th WIEF Roundtable In Bangladesh

KUALA LUMPUR, March 9 (Bernama) -- World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) Foundation chairman, Musa Hitam, will lead a delegation of industry experts to Dhaka, Bangladesh for the fifth WIEF Roundtable from March 19-20. In a statement on Friday, WIEF said the roundtable will address three core issues affecting South Asia -- Regional Cooperation to Combat Climate Change: The Way Forward; Islamic Microfinance: An Instrument for Poverty Alleviation; and, Private Higher Education: Creating World Class Institutions Through Regional Cooperation. Musa said the first roundtable for 2012 aimed to make inroads and address the underlying socio-economic issues that had besieged the region. "We will discuss, dissect and determine sustainable ways to overcome issues that hinder nations from developing and progressing," he said. The WIEF Roundtable is jointly organised by South-East Asian Cooperation Foundation and WIEF. It is also supported by the Bangladesh Federation of Women Entrepreneurs, the Bangladesh Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Malaysian High Commission in Bangladesh. The roundtable's inaugural ceremony on March 19 will be graced by Bangladesh Minister for Environment and Forest Dr Hasan Mahmud and the main event will be addressed by eminent personalities from the government sector, regulators and industry practitioners. The roundtable is intended as a platform for establishing interface with the region's most influential thought leaders in the field of environment, finance and education. Panellists from academia, researchers, practitioners and policy makers will share their insights towards cutting-edge information on global trends, regional issues and challenges. -- BERNAMA
