Electric Vehicle Registrations Increase for 3rd Consecutive Month

BANGKOK, April 27 (TNA) – In Thailand, registrations of new electric vehicles in March rose for the third month in a row.

Government spokesman Anucha Burapachaisri said registrations of BEVs increased to more than 8,500 in March thanks to the government’s measures to promote the use of electric vehicles.

The figures in March comprised 6,205 personal cars and 2,263 motorcycles, according to the Department of Land Transport. The BEV registrations increased from February by 1,000-1,500 units on average.

In February, the EV registrations were 7,335 units and 4,543 units in January.

The 100% EV registrations rose constantly. The lastest Motor Show and Motor Expo recorded increased orders for EVs. Tesla, BYD and MG automakers have gradually handed over EVs to their customers.

The cumulative pure electric cars to date were 61,594, most of which were electric motorcycles, followed by per sonal cars.

Prime Minister and Defense Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha was reported on EV registration situation in Thailand. EV registration is on the rising trend. It is a stepping stone for Thailand in moving to the low carbon society, said government spokesman. (TNA)
