“TSETSII” WIND FARM BUILT IN UMNUGOBI

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ A ceremony took place on October 6 to open a wind farm of 50 megawatt in Tsogttsetsii soum, Umnugobi aimag. The project was successfully co-implemented by the Clean Energy Asia LLC, the Newcom LLC, the Softbank Energy Corporation, the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The farm’s construction started on September, 2016, and the project completed works of installing 25 wind turbines, connecting the soum’s sub-station with the country’s central electricity network and constructing 32 km overhead electric lines. Becoming the second wind farm built in Mongolia with private investments, the ‘Tsetsii’ wind power station is expected to contribute to providing the country with electricity from environmentally-friendly, renewable and clean resources. Funded from loans of the JICA and the EBRD, the wind farm is also expected to contribute to ensuring the sustainable economic growth by reducing imported electricity and minimizing impact on climate change. For instance, it is projected that the wind farm will reduce greenhouse gas emission by 230 thousand tons and saving 180 thousand tons of coal and 1.2 million tons of water a year. Additionally, the farm located in southern area of Mongolia will develop the local roads, railways and energy infrastructure. B.Batchimeg
