Emirates Environmental Group unites community for environmental conservation

ABU DHABI, 22nd February, 2018 (WAM) -- The Emirates Environmental Group, EEG, has once again rallied the nation for its 22nd cycle of the 'Can Collection Day'. The event brought together more than 115 entities from across the Emirates, where the combined efforts of various hotels, families, academic institutions and corporations reeled in 4,000 kg of Aluminium Cans for recycling.
The campaign portrays the growing awareness of recycling practices, its importance and the dedication of the people living on this land. The EEG has managed to collect 4,562kg of Aluminium cans for recycling which forms 16.3 percent of the set target for 2018, which is of 28,000 kg. The collection of the said amount resulted in the mitigation of 60 MTCO2E, saving of 97m3 of landfill space and saving of 910 million BTU of energy.
As President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan declared 2018 as the Year of Zayed, what better way is there to celebrate the founding father’s legacy and vision of environmental conservation than to engage in recycling efforts.
Habiba Al Marashi, Chairperson of EEG, emphasised that the legacy should be quantifiable through action oriented campaigns, as the country pursues the promotion of sustainable practices. Since its inception EEG has successfully managed to collect 302,581 kg of aluminium cans for recycling, with a cumulate mitigation of 4,542 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide, saving of 7,345 m3 of landfill space and saving of 68,863 million BTU of energy.
The campaign’s success is due to the collaboration and commitment of various government, corporate and academic institutions.
Al Mar’ashi expressed her gratitude to Al Masaood Oil and Gas for coming on board as an main sponsor for the Can Collection Day 2018. EEG also appreciates the support of Dubai Municipality, Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority, Ajman Tourism Development Department, McDonald’s UAE, Abela and Co, RAK Ceramics, American International School of Abu Dhabi, Blue LLC, Tristar, Paper Chase International Inc, Sharif Metals, Gulf News, Dubai TV and Virgin Radio for making this campaign a success, she added.
