Global Instant Noodles Suppliers Vow to Stop Using Plastics

Osaka, Aug. 23 (Jiji Press)--Instant noodles suppliers from across the globe said Thursday that they aim to stop using plastics for packaging to make their products the most environment-friendly food. The goal was unveiled in a declaration adopted at the end of a two-day international meeting of instant noodles suppliers held in the western Japan city of Osaka. Hosted by the World Instant Noodles Association, the meeting dates back to 1997. The association is chaired by Koki Ando, president and chief executive officer at Nissin Foods Holdings Co. <2897>, a Japanese company. This year's meeting, which brought together 208 people, marked the 60th anniversary of the launch of Nissin's Chicken Ramen, the world's first instant noodles product. In the declaration, the importance of nutrition and environmental protection was newly added to the instant noodles development principles advocated by the late Nissin founder Momofuku Ando. Total global demand for instant noodles last year increased 2.7 pct from the previous year to 100.1 billion servings, according to the association. END
