MONGOLIAN GAZELLES SEEN IN UVS AIMAG AFTER 60 YEARS

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ A flock of Mongolian gazelles entered Uvs aimag 60 years after the animal was last seen in the province, reports a MONTSAME correspondent in Uvs aimag.
The Administration of Khan Khukhii Mountain Range Strictly Protected Area reported that the animals were seen in a place called Uzuuriin Bulag of the Khyargas Lake National Park, after migrating from Khomiin Tal in Zavkhan aimag.
The local residents have been warned against attempting to hunt the Mongolian gazelles. According to B.Buyantsog, Head of the Administration of Khan Khukhii Mountain Range Strictly Protected Area, a fine of MNT 500-550 thousand will be imposed on hunting of the animals.
The Mongolian gazelles migrate due to ecological imbalance and in search of a good pasture and warmer habitat to spend winter.
Local sources said that the Mongolian gazelles used to migrate from the steppe of Dornod to Uvs aimag 60 years ago. However, construction of railways restricted free movement of the animals, most of which then remained in Dornod.
