Experts Laude Qatar's Great Efforts in Achieving Sustainable Development in LDSs
Doha, March 08 (QNA) - A number of climate change and environment experts praised the great efforts made by the State of Qatar in achieving sustainable development in the least developed countries, in a way that supports the aspirations of the United Nations through its developmental programs, stressing the need to include youth in the decision-making process and to add climate change problems to the curricula for students in order to provide educational courses that are environmentally friendly and highlight the importance of confronting climate change.
During a panel discussion held on the sidelines of the Fifth UN Conference for the Least Developed Countries (LDC5), under the title: "Unleashing the Power of Youth: Supporting Youth-led Climate Action in the LDC," the experts stressed the need to support youth-led climate action in LDC, calling on governments to provide ideas in support of the Doha Work Program, which presents meaningful development ideas, and to give opportunities to the youth and children and deal with them as partners in the decision-making process.
They reviewed the most prominent initiatives and programs that have been presented in order to confront climate change and reduce its risks, emphasizing that there is an absolute necessity to activate the role of youth leaders, support them, and develop their skills by working to confront climate problems.
The experts expressed hope for the role of youth in assuming responsibility and bearing the difficulties in order to bring about the required change regarding climate action.
They noted that the current stage necessitates the concerned and responsible authorities to provide additional assistance and efforts due to the problems of climate change, pointing out to the importance of giving priority to the file of confronting climate change and presenting programs, initiatives and practical steps that contribute to the development of policies to adapt to the climate.
In turn, HE Minister of Education, Youth and Sports of the Kingdom of Cambodia affirmed that the file of climate change and its negative repercussions has become one of the most prominent and important challenges that countries face today, indicating that the damages and risks have negatively affected the economic and development conditions, so that this crisis remains in constant need of assistance and support.
His Excellency indicated that Cambodia's priorities lie in enhancing a development plan that seeks to develop youth and enhance their skills. He reviewed some of the projects and plans presented by his country in order to promote youth initiatives, and other positive measures that have been taken in this regard.
He pointed out that the Ministry of Education in Cambodia launched national plans and ambitious programs, and integrated education with climate change studies, especially with regard to the master's degree in climate change, in addition to encouraging competition programs related to climate change, evaluating the status of clean water and planting trees that support resilience in the presence of climate changes.
