‘Wings of Mexico’ launched at Manarat Al Saadiyat

ABU DHABI, 10th September, 2018 (WAM) -- The famous sculpture ‘Wings of Mexico’, created by well-known Mexican artist Jorge Marin, was officially unveiled in Abu Dhabi in a special ceremony attended by dignitaries and VIPS representing both the UAE and the North American country. The public display of the sculpture, which will run until October 31st, has been coordinated by the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) in cooperation with Manarat Al Saadiyat, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, the Mexican Agency for International Cooperation for Development (AMEXCID), The Embassy of Mexico and the Foundation Jorge Marin. The artwork was unveiled by Saif Saeed Ghobash, Undersecretary at DCT Abu Dhabi, and Francisca E. Mendez Escobar, Ambassador of Mexico to the UAE, in the presence of Sheikh Salem Khalid Al Qassimi, Assistant Under-Secretary for Knowledge Development of the Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development, and Rita Aoun–Abdo, Executive Director of the Culture Sector, at DCT Abu Dhabi. ‘Wings of Mexico’ was created in 2010 for public display. Having visited Kuwait, Egypt, Singapore, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Bangkok, the impressive sculpture is now on show Abu Dhabi’s cultural centre, Manarat Al Saadiyat, in Saadiyat’s Cultural District. The sculpture’s striking design consists of two wings of bronze, which are placed on an iron frame above three steps of concrete. In addition to the display of the ‘Wings of Mexico’, DCT Abu Dhabi and the Embassy of Mexico have also launched an engaging and interactive public programme to complement the iconic sculpture. The programme consists of Mexican films screenings, a photography competition and arts and craft workshops, and is free for all.
