120,000 foreign nationals covered by Iran Health Insurance Organization

Tehran, March 3, IRNA- Director General of Insurance and Income of the Health Insurance Organization of Iran says that about 120,000 foreigners are covered by Health insurance Organization via a contract with the UNHCR of which about 100,000 were introduced by the UNHCR Davood Haji Qasemali added on Sunday about foreign nationals health insurance, “Out of 120,000 foreigners insured by the Health Insurance Organization, about 1,000 people are special patients.” From 2015 onwards, according to the request of the UNHCR, and despite the limited resources, part of the refugees residing in the country were covered by insurance in the form of a trilateral agreement between the Health Insurance Organization, the UNHCR and the Ministry of Interior. The Director General of Insurance and Income of the Health Insurance Organization said that the organization covered about 40 million insured persons in five insurance funds. About 85% of the insured organizations are not paying any premium and are covered by this organization free of charge.
