128,373 Illegal Foreign Workers Legalised Under 6P To Date

PUTRAJAYA, Jan 4 (Bernama) -- A total of 128,373 illegal foreign workers from 15,589 employers have been legalised under the Illegal Immigrant Comprehensive Settlement Programme (6P) as of Wednesday at seven 6P one-stop centres since the process began on Oct 10. Home Affairs Ministry (KDN) secretary-general Mahmood Adam said from the total, Putrajaya Immigration Department received the highest number of 13,031 applications from employers to legalise 116,018 illegal foreign workers. In a statement Wednesday, he said the KDN Complex in Seberang Jaya, Penang received applications from 1,021 employers to legalise 4,209 illegal foreign workers followed by Johor Baharu KDN Complex with 907 employers for 4,073 workers. "At the same time, one more one-stop centre began operation today at the KDN Complex in Kuantan, Pahang as an alternative for employers in Pahang, Kelantan and Terengganu," he said. At the same time, 73,673 illegal immigrants were involved in the 6P amnesty programme of whom 49,642 were Indonesians, followed by Indians (5,401), Myanmar nationals (3,167), Cambodians (2,684), Nepalese (3,829), Filipinoes (1,244), Bangladeshis (2,663), Vietnamese (1,443), Sri Lankans (908), Pakistanis (1,601) and Chinese (584). From the total, 54,696 illegal immigrants left the country by air, 18,788 by sea and another 191 by land, said Mahmood. -- BERNAMA
