140 PGA Members To Join UN Peacekeeping Mission In Timor Leste

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 10 (Bernama) -- A total of 140 members of the Central Brigade of the General Operations Force (PGA) will leave for Timor Leste tomorrow under the United Nations (UN) peacekeeping mission. Known as Malaysian Formed Police Unit (Mal-FPU), the team, which also comprised a doctor and three medical assistants from the Malaysian Armed Forces, will leave in stages to replace the earlier PGA team from the Northern Brigade, who would return home tomorrow after completing their six-month mission in Timor Leste. "The first batch of 88 officers and staff, led by Mal-FPU Commander DSP Mohamad Taufik Maidin, will depart from the KL International Airport at 4.50am Thursday," Deputy Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar said in his speech at the sending off ceremony of the team here Wednesday. The rest of the team members, however, will only leave on Nov 16, he said. Khalid also reminded the members of the team to adhere to all regulations and instructions issued from time to time. "Although we are under the UN peacekeeping mission in Timor Leste, we are still subject to Section 11 of the Police Act 1967 and the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) Regulations 1993," he added. -- BERNAMA
