17 Countries Confirm Participation For Asian Sailing Championships

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 12 (Bernama) -- Seventeen countries have so far confirmed their participation for the 15th Asian Sailing Championships from Feb 16-26 at the National Sailing Training Centre in Langkawi, Kedah.
Malaysian Yachting Association (MYA) general manager Mohd Afendy Abdullah said among countries in the list were Japan, China, Korea, India, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Taiwan, Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Myanmar, Hongkong and Malaysia as host.
"Hong Kong was the latest to confirm their participation with 33 sailors while Singapore will have the highest number of participants with 35. Myanmar has yet to send their team list," he said.
Mohd Afendy said MYA would hold a selection process to identify 32 sailors to compete in the 16 events held during the inaugural championships.
"The selection of sailors for the championships will be held during the Premier Langkawi International Regatta from Feb 8-12, in Langkawi," he said.
Langkawi, officially known as Langkawi, the Jewel of Kedah is an archipelago of 104 islands in the Andaman Sea, some 30 km off the mainland coast of northwestern Malaysia. (photoBERNAMA)
