245 Refugees Of Mount Sinabung Eruption Rehabilitated In Sei Bingei

Langkat, North Sumatra, Nov 28 (Antara) - Some 245 refugees, who are victims of the recent eruption at Mount Sinabung, are currently being accommodated in the Sei Bingei sub-district of the Langkat district. "Some 245 inhabitants of Tanah Karo, who have been evacuated, are currently being accommodated at the Telagah village head`s office in the Sei Bingei sub-district of Langkat District," Telagah Village Head Suranta Sitepu said on Thursday. Most of the refugees are children and old people, he pointed out adding that they were residents of Kabayaken, Kuta Rakyat, Sigarang garang, Kuta Gunggung and Dalan Jahe, in the Tanah Karo district. The alert status of Mount Sinabung, which is located in the Tanah Karo district of the North Sumatra Province, had been raised to the fourth or highest level after the volcano's activities intensified further. Around 15,000 people living within a radius of five kilometers from the volcano`s craters have been evacuated to safer areas, the Head of the Mount Sinabung Disaster Mitigation Media Center Jhonson Tarigan, stated on Wednesday. Up till Tuesday, a total of 16,672 people (or 5,603 families) from 21 villages in the Tanah Karo district, had been evacuated and accommodated at 31 command posts.
