2nd Mideast Turbomachinery Symposium to Be Held in March
Doha, February 09 (QNA) - The second Middle East Turbomachinery Symposium (METS 2) will be held under the patronage of HE Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry, and Chairman and Managing Director of Qatar Petroleum (QP), at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC) on March 18-20, with short courses to be conducted on March 17 in conjunction with the symposium.
The METS 2 exhibition will feature 63 leading companies from the oil and gas, petrochemical, power, pumping and turbomachinery industries. The exhibitors will display full-size equipment, cutting-edge technology, and emerging industry trends. Highly-qualified technical personnel will be on hand to address the business needs of industry professionals.
The event, whose online registration closes on February 18, offers an exciting occasion for industry leaders to share ideas, exchange technical knowledge, and to discuss ongoing industry-related issues, a QP press release said.
The technical program has been developed with end users in mind, particularly users from oil and gas, petrochemical, and power-generation industries. Delegates can choose to attend and engage in a combination of 8 short courses, 12 lectures, 8 tutorials, 8 discussion groups and 21 sessions of case studies, led by 133 accomplished speakers from around the world. The topics that will be covered include compressors, steam and gas turbines, expanders, pumps and drivers including motors, and auxiliary equipment such as couplings, bearings, gear boxes, dry gas seals, and annular seals.
The METS Technical Advisory Committee (MTAC), a group comprised of highly respected engineers from both regional and international companies in the industry, is overseeing the development of the technical program for this year's symposium. Dr. Dara Childs, Director of the Turbomachinery Laboratory at Texas A and M University, and Mr. Abdulaziz Al-Naimi, Joint Interest Manager at RasGas, jointly serve as MTAC Co-chairs.
In addition to the symposium, delegates also have the option to register for a tour of Ras Laffan Port, which was built by QP as an export facility as part of Ras Laffan Industrial City (RLC). The tour includes a presentation in the port administration building, a question-and-answer session, and tours of the port and the industrial city. The registration deadline for the tour is March 1.
The inaugural edition of METS debuted in Doha in February 2011 with over 1,000 attendees and 60 exhibiting companies. The second edition is primed to be the premier turbomachinery event in the Middle East, combining a world-class technical conference and international exhibition.
METS 2 is supported by QP as the host and titanium sponsor. The symposium's other major sponsors include ExxonMobil and RasGas as platinum sponsors, Qatargas as the gold sponsor, and Dolphin Energy as the silver sponsor. (QNA)
