ADMAF calls on artists to enter Abu Dhabi Festival Visual Arts Award 2018

ABU DHABI, 5th March, 2018 (WAM) -- As part of the Abu Dhabi Festival 2018, Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation, ADMAF, and Gulf Capital are inviting Emirati artists and visual arts practitioners to take part in the Gulf Capital – Abu Dhabi Festival Visual Arts Award 2018. The award is an opportunity for Emirati visual arts students and emerging arts practitioners to respond to the significant works in this year’s landmark headline exhibition, From Barcelona to Abu Dhabi: Works from the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art, MACBA, in dialogue with the Emirates. Taking place at Manarat al Saadiyat, the exhibition contains works by the pioneers of the 20th and 21st centuries; artists are invited to respond to its major themes ‘Figure’, ‘Environment’ and ‘Form’, creating their own artwork inspired by the masters of contemporary art. One entry, which demonstrates outstanding creativity, will be selected by a distinguished panel of judges to be exhibited at next year’s Abu Dhabi Festival and will win the AED10,000 award. Launched at the Abu Dhabi Festival 2013, The Gulf Capital – Abu Dhabi Festival Visual Arts Award was established to support the growth of UAE visual arts scene, nurturing the creativity of Emirati students and emerging artists by fostering engagement with Abu Dhabi Festival’s annual exhibitions. Recognising outstanding Emirati creativity in the visual arts, performing arts, literature, animation or film, the award’s criteria is based on artistic merit, evidence of original and creative thinking and personal application of technical skills. The recipient of The Gulf Capital – Abu Dhabi Festival Visual Arts Award 2017 was Emirati artist, Sakeena AlRumaithi, whose jewellery designs drew inspiration from last year’s Festival Exhibition ‘The Art of Nature’. Her work will be displayed at Emirates Palace throughout the Festival.
