Al-Maktoum College in Scotland to celebrate graduation of 25th batch of leadership programme

DUNDEE, 22nd February, 2018 (WAM) -- The Al Maktoum College of Higher Education in Dundee, Scotland, will celebrate, tomorrow, the graduation of the 25th batch of students of the college’s Academic Training Programme in Multiculturalism and Leadership. Held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance, the ceremony will see the attendance of Mirza Al Sayegh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the College, Lord Murray Elder, College Chancellor, and Bob Duncan, Mayor of Dundee, along with directors and officials from participating universities and colleges. The programme’s current term, which started on 5th February, 2018, was attended by 53 female students of UAE University, Zayed University, the American University of Sharjah, the British University in Dubai, the Higher Colleges of Technology, the Islamic and Arab Studies College, the Economics and Political Sciences College in Cairo, and Malaya University in Malaysia, as well as five recruits of the Ministry of Interior. Dr. Abu Bakr Jaber Abu Bakr, Acting Director-General of Al Maktoum College, said that the programme’s students met with Shona Robison, Scottish Minister of Health, at the college’s headquarters, who spoke about the work of the Scottish Parliament and its discussions and decision-making process, as well as the role of women in political and social life. Professor Neether Patrick, Head of Middle East Studies at Dublin University, also participated in a lecture on ethics and Islam and a comparative study of Islamic law and European law. Professor Marlowatoplar from the University of St. Andrews also spoke about the dialogue of civilisations and praised the students’ participation. The programme included lectures and workshops on globalisation, cultural pluralism, dialogue between civilisations, and leadership and management. Al Sayegh highlighted the college’s efforts to ensure the success of the programme, which aims to develop the leadership skills of students and prepare them to occupy leading roles in the community, learn about new cultures, and communicate and interact with others societies.
