Asian Journalists To Meet In China To Discuss Future

From Zakaria Abdul Wahab JINAN (China), Nov 8 (Bernama) -- About 50 top media representatives from Asean countries, China, Japan and Korea are meeting here on Monday to map out strategies on how they could work together as "one voice" for the benefit of the Asian region. The meet, The Fourth 10+3 Media Cooperation Forum, is organised by China’s biggest and influential national newspaper, People’s Daily. The media participants will discuss how to uplift Asian media’s voice as one on the world stage, according to the organiser. They will also deliberate on strengthening media cooperation within the 10+3 framework (10 Asean member countries plus China, Japan and South Korea) to promote mutual understanding and trust. The organiser said the media from the east Asian region should learn from each other and coordinate to strengthen the voice, not only on coverage of Asian affairs but also international affairs. This could “make the Asian voice louder in the international arena and make contribution to a peaceful, prosperous and harmonious Asia,” it added. The media representatives will also be briefed on the latest development on China-Asean regional cooperation in economy and trade, particularly that which involves Shandong Province. They will also touch on the rapid development of the new media and new communications that are now challenging the future of traditional media in most parts of Asia. Apart from Jinan City which is located south of Beijing, the participants will also be taken to Zibo City and the coastal city of Qingdao to visit several high-tech industrial development zones and pottery industry. Bernama’s Economic News Service Deputy Editor-in-Chief Zakaria Abdul Wahab and Sin Chew Daily’s Deputy Editor-in-Chief Tay Tian Yan are representing Malaysia at the one-day forum. -- BERNAMA Malaysia
