Azerbaijani President inspects construction and installation work at "West Chirag" platform

Azerbaijan, Baku, July 23 / Trend / President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has today inspected construction and installation work at the "West Chirag" platform. The Head of State was told that the foundation stone for the platform was laid in 2010. The West Chirag platform has the heaviest jacket ever built in the Caspian Sea. The jacket has a total weight of 18,200 tonnes (which includes 1500 tonnes of floating tanks) and is about 185 metres high. The jacket was built by the local company BOS Shelf, now fully owned by SOCAR. Over 2000 people including sub contractors and specialist vendors, were involved in the construction works. Some 96 percent of construction workers were Azerbaijani nationals. President Ilham Aliyev met the constructors and expressed satisfaction with the carried out work.
