Bahrain attends GCC-EU meeting

Riyadh, May 3 (BNA):Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for Regional and GCC Affairs, Ambassador Waheed Sayyar participated in the political and security dialogue between the GCC and the European Union which was held today in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The ambassador affirmed the importance of enhancing cooperation and coordination between the GCC countries and the EU countries on regional and international issues and common challenges and threats. He pointed out that the international community faces great challenges, especially terrorism, noting that the GCC countries are still facing serious threats and interferences in their internal affairs which aim to destabilize their security and stability and incite sectarian conflict. He stated that the GCC countries emphasize the necessity of concerted efforts by the international community to combat the dangerous phenomenon of terrorism and its criminal and religiously prohibited acts of crime. The Secretary-General of the GCC, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani chaired the GCC side, while the European side was chaired by the Chair of the EU's Political and Security Committee, Ambassador Walter Stevens. They stressed the importance of continuing coordination on the joint cooperation between the two sides, in addition to discussing the latest developments on the regional and international arenas. The delegation of the Kingdom of Bahrain also made a presentation on the Kingdom's experience in combating terrorism.
