Bahrain chairs joint GCC-UK meeting

Manama, May 25 (BNA): Ambassador Waheed Mubarak Sayyar, the Undersecretary for Regional and GCC Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Kingdom of Bahrain, chaired the joint meeting between the GCC States and the United Kingdom, held at the Secretariat General of the Gulf Cooperation Council in Riyadh. The meeting was held to follow up on the outcomes of the first summit, hosted by the kingdom of Bahrain in 2016, and to arrange for the upcoming one, set to be held in the United Kingdom. In his statement at the meeting, Ambassador Sayyar presented his sincere condolences for the victims of the terrorist attack that took place in Manchester and affirmed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s support for all the measures taken by the United Kingdom to protect its security and stability, calling for close cooperation to combat the terrorist groups. The meeting looked into the agreed work plan, the outcomes of past meetings and plans for the future meetings of the working groups and bilateral political consultations and discussed cooperation in security, trade, investment, cultural and media fields. Other areas of cooperation like humanitarian and development assistance were discussed along with the most suitable modalities to encourage social and cultural dialogue and to arrange for the second summit, to be held in the United Kingdom by the end of the current year.
