Bahrain's human rights strides stressed

Geneva, Feb. 28(BNA): Assistant Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Faisal bin Jabr Al Dossari delivered Bahrain’s statement at the high-level segment of the United Nations Human Rights Council’s 34th Session in Geneva. He highlighted national human rights achievements under the royal reform scheme of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and Government Plan 2015-2018. He affirmed that the Kingdom of Bahrain is keen on spreading the values of moderation and tolerance through a slew of educational, learning, religious and media programs and within a clear legislative and societal scheme and a proper economic and social structure. The Kingdom is seeking to achieve an effective partnership with civil society institutions on the basis of transparency, openness and objectivity, he said, pointing out the substantial challenges, particularly foreign interferences and increasing acts of violence, terrorism and vicious extremism. He also pointed to some sides’ exploitation of human rights issues to attain petty political gains that are incompatible with human rights, security and stability and touched on the efforts being exerted by the Kingdom to confront these acts with legal means and in total commitment to human rights standards. Regarding the Syrian issue, the Assistant Foreign Minister affirmed that the Kingdom of Bahrain stands by the side of the Syrian people in their quest for a political solution to the crisis in accordance with the resolutions of the international legitimacy. This is, he added, to help the Syrian people rebuild the country with its rich texture, eliminate the thriving terrorist organizations on the Syrian territory and keep away all forms of interference that cripple the settlement efforts. On the Palestinian cause, Al Dossari emphasized support to the two-state solution according to international laws and conventions and in consonance with international legitimacy resolutions. He also affirmed the commitment of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the Arab coalition to support the legitimacy in Yemen towards a peaceful settlement capable of putting an end to the sufferings of the Yemeni people and to preserve the country’s security and territorial integrity in accordance to the agreed references. the Assistant Foreign Minister expressed, on behalf of the delegation of the Kingdom of Bahrain, keenness on cooperating with the United Nations Human Rights Council to further underpin and safeguard human rights.
