Bahrain's initiatives in protecting expatriate workers' rights stressed

Berlin, July 1 (BNA): President of the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) Osama bin Abdullah Al Absi stressed Bahrain’s initiatives in granting the expatriate workforce their legal rights and providing them with favourable humanitarian conditions in line with international agreements. Describing the kingdom’s experience as a regional model to emulate, he said during his participation in an international conference on immigration, held in Berlin, Germany, from June 28 to 30, that such events which are attended by more than 4000 participants from around the world represent an opportunity to GCC experiences which assert development of the legal framework to protect the rights of the expatriate labour force. Al Absi added that the annual conference which is attended by influential figures to discuss the rights of 1 billion immigrants throughout the world is a platform to highlight differences in the concept of migration in the world and bringing in expatriate workers to the GCC countries. He noted that LMRA will represent a work paper on Bahrain’s experience and initiatives regarding the services provided for the expatriate workforce. He pointed out that the work paper will be prepared in coordination with the Secretariat General of the Migration Conference to be reviewed in a special session in the next conference which is expected to be held in Morocco in order to endorse Bahrain’s experience as a GCC model of regional development in this respect.
