Bangkok installs more pumps on flooded roads
BANGKOK, May 30 (TNA) - The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) installed more pumps at flood hit areas as the capital has been hit by heavy rain, triggering floods on 30 routes on Tuesday.
The Bangkok Metropolitan Flood Control Centre reported that the maximum rainfall was recorded at 95.5 millimetres in Bangkhen district today. Among all 30 flooded roads, the flood situation at 11 roads has returned to normal.
It reported the hardest-hit area was Ngamwongwan Road as both inbound and outbound lanes have been under 15-20 centimetres of water.
Deputy Bangkok governor Chakkraphan Phewngam visited the flooded area to inspect the water drainage in Ngamwongwan.
The Laksi district office operated water pumps to accelerate draining water into the Bangkhen canal. If there is no more rain, the flood will ease within two hours as the water level in the canal stays at a normal level. More water pumps are also operating in alleys to relieve flood in residential area.
Meanwhile, flooding outside the Changwattana government complex caused traffic snarl while BMA workers have collected garbage that clogged the sewer system to speed up water drainage.
Slow traffic was also reported on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road, heading to Lat Phrao intersection as the road has been under water, which reached the pavement level. (TNA)
