BETTER SYSTEM REQUIRED TO SAFEGUARD RIGHTS OF FOREIGN WORKERS - MINISTER
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 14 (Bernama) -- Human Resource Minister S.Subramaniam said
a better monitoring system should be worked out to ensure the
rights of foreign workers would always be protected.
He said although the laws in the country did not discriminate between local
and foreign, they were sometimes abused.
"So, a system, which is more effective, especially in terms of monitoring,
is required to ensure the rights of the foreign workers are protected, he told
reporters after opening a regional consultation on migrant worker's access to
justice and participation of women migrants in Asean here Monday.
Subramaniam said that in Malaysia, all workers, including foreign workers,
enjoyed equal rights, including in terms of salary and work distribution.
Also present at the function was Tenaganita Irene Fernandez and the
president of the United Nations Committee on foreign workers' rights, Abdelhamid
El Jamri.
